A California Certificate of Status (a.k.a. Certificate of Good Standing and Good Standing Certificate) is often required to obtain financing, renew a license, enter into certain business transactions, and in some cases for tax purposes. A California corporation, or LLC, will use a Certificate of Good Standing to prove they are incorporated and authorized to do business in the state. A California Certificate of Good Standing is a document that verifies that a California corporation, California LLC, or California registered partnership is in existence, authorized to transact business in the state, and is current on all of its filings with both the Secretary of State and Franchise Tax Board. A California Certificate of Status (Good Standing Certificate) is a one-page document provided by the California Secretary of State that serves as conclusive proof that your California corporation, LLC, or registered partnership is in existence, in good standing (or in some cases suspended), and if in good standing authorized to transact business in the state. It is typically valid for 90 days.
To obtain a Certificate of Good Standing, a California corporation, LLC, or partnership must be: (1) registered as a legal entity and (2) in full compliance with the corporate rules (current on all its Secretary of State and Franchise Tax Board filings).
We can retrieve a California Certificate of Good Standing for a California Corporation, LLC, or registered partnership from the California Secretary of State within 48 hours for just $249 plus the costs. We can also retrieve certified copies of any filed document, such as your Articles of Incorporation, Articles of Organization, Amendments, and/or last filed Statement of Information. We can also retrieve a Certificate of Status on someone else's corporation to show that it is suspended.

Update: Due to cutbacks instituted by the State of California, the processing time to obtain a certificate of good standing by mail has increased substantially. Mail processing times to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing averages 3 to 4 weeks. If you need a certificate of status (good standing) in less time, we will hand deliver your request to the Secretary of State in Sacramento, which will enable our office to retrieve the California Certificate of Good Standing typically within 48 hours.
